Another safeguard to use is always pay using your credit card, and if you can, pay through Pay-Pal.
By using your credit card you are insured against any type of fraud on the Internet.(check your card is covered. Most are.).
By using Pay-Pal, it is only them that have your card details, and best of all, they have a Full Refund Policy if you are not entirely happy with whatever the payment is for.
This is great if you have bought something that you later regret doing, like purchasing something and then finding out about a hidden charge.
Please note that you must have a good reason to ask for your money back, Pay-Pal will take action if all you do is order things on the Internet and then ask for a refund later.

Having said all this I’m afraid that there are websites out there who just want your money and make it very difficult to get the money back when things go wrong. But if you follow the guidelines above you will get rid of a lot of the garbage out there.
